Are there any special design or installation tips for Chapter 15 Statuario?

Due to the assortment of decorative elements contained in this Chapter, particularly striking installations are possible when several components are used together. Statuario is a marble therefore normal marble installation procedures apply. With marble being a porous natural product it thus requires a few recommended installation tips be followed. It is highly recommended that white thin set be used, as grey thin set can darken the color of Statuario. With respect to the micro mosaics, we recommend using a non-sanded grout with white being the best choice. In the event a non-white grout is used, we recommend sealing the surface prior to grouting.

We recommend that you seal all natural stone with a high quality penetrating sealer prior to grouting and after grouting to prevent staining. Also, there are stone enhancers from several manufacturers that "enhance" stone and give more dramatic results. An ongoing maintenance program is essential for all stone installations.

We recommend that you lay out the tiles prior to installation to create the blend of the different hues and colors the stones provide naturally, to create a beautiful natural stone design.

The largest moulding in this collection is quite heavy. Installation will require a wooden straight edge be temporarily secured on the wall to keep the moulding in place until the thin set dries. They can be hung in place with screws/nails to prevent slipping while the mortar bonds and sets.

The Statuario color works splendidly with the Allegro White in Chapter 18 and the Huntington White in Chapter 6.
