CHAPTER 16  •  Provence

Why did you name Chapter 16 Provence?

Provence is a region in Southern France bordering the Mediterranean Sea. Famous for wine, food, beautiful mountains, quaint villages and fields of lavender, Provence is a warm and inviting place. Chapter 16 Provence captures the motifs of this region with colors that are soft, friendly and versatile.

What are the key features of Chapter 16 Provence?

  • Chapter 16 is comprised of a satin matte smooth glaze with crackle properties. This glaze is found in many French heritage tiles commonly known as Faience.
  • Provence offers a choice of a 5"x10" and a 5" x 5" modular field tile which is true to many of the tiles made in this region for centuries.
  • The Springtime and Autumn colors work wonderfully with most floor tiles and, due to their "soft" pastel nature, will endure the test of time.
  • Chapter 16 Provence features heavily moulded décor pieces which add that splash of designing fun.
  • Lastly, included in Chapter 16 Provence are two artisan glass listels to add a splash of color to any installation.

Where can this collection be used?

Chapter 16 Provence would enhance any interior wall application to include kitchen backsplash, tub surround, powder room walls, on wine cellar walls, or even hearth walls. Provence is soft in color and thus very versatile and not trendy. It will endure the test of time. Crackle glazed field tiles are NOT recommended for floors.

Please note that we do NOT recommend the crackle finish tiles be used on horizontal food serving or preparation applications, such as kitchen counters. However, they can be used on powder room counters.

Are there any special design or installation tips for chapter 16 Provence?

Chapter 16 Provence has surface bullnose, bead, mouldings, and cornice trim to allow for versatile installations.

We produce Chapter 16 Provence to reflect the shade variations associated with handmade tile. As with all Jeffrey Court handmade tiles, we strongly recommend laying out and blending the tiles prior to installation. This step will ensure a proper color blend in order to achieve a classic look for your installation.

We recommend sealing the crackle glazed tiles prior to and after installation with a high quality penetrating sealer.

The crackle glaze nuance brings an old world charm to each installation. In wet areas, water can penetrate through these minute cracks which will accentuate the antiquing. This nuance is something to be embraced as ALL CRACKLE glazes have this antiquing.
