CHAPTER 1 • Classic Shapes
Why did you name Chapter 1 Classic Shapes?
In developing this chapter, we looked at the sizes, colors, decorative elements, and moulding shapes that adorned buildings in ancient Rome and Athens. The interesting random texture to the surface of the field tiles works in perfect unison with the shapes of the decorative elements.
What are the key features of Chapter 1 Classic Shapes?
- Subtle color palette with slight shade variation to reinforce the look of tiles made by artisans of ancient Greece and Italy
- 8"x 8" field tiles in matching 8 inch length decorative strips and moulding pieces
- Random texture of field tiles to reinforce the classic look of ages long ago
Where can this collection be used?
Chapter 1 Classic Shapes is for interior wall/counter use. Ideal areas are shower installations, kitchen and bath walls and backsplashes, or any other interior wall space were typical wall tiles are used. The field tiles are NOT recommended for floors.
Please note that we do NOT recommend the three crackle finish tiles be used on horizontal food serving or preparation applications, such as kitchen counters. However, they can be used on powder room counters.
Are there any special design or installation tips for Chapter 1 Classic Shapes?
Classic Shapes has surface bullnose, bead, and counter trim to allow for versatile installations.
We highly recommend using the field tiles with the décor pieces on the same installation to gain an "architectural" look emulating facades on old churches, palaces, and stately homes in Europe. To complete any installation, Classic Shapes works beautifully with stone floor tiles from Chapter 11 Antiquity.
We produce Chapter 1 Classic Shapes to reflect the shade variations associated with handmade tile. As with all Jeffrey Court handmade tiles, we strongly recommend laying out and blending the tiles prior to installation. This step will ensure a proper color blend in order to achieve a classic look for your installation.

Please notice the field tiles have two colors in a gloss glaze and two in a matte finish.
