CHAPTER 5  •  Artisan-Heritage II

Why did you name Chapter 5 Artisan-Heritage II?

Chapter 5 Artisan-Heritage II is Jeffrey Court's rendition of "craftsmen" tiles made in the tradition of the arts-and-crafts movement. Using only lead free glazes of today, Artisan-Heritage II has a color scheme and a large number of shapes that keep within the range of tiles made in the early 1900's.

What are the key features of Chapter 5 Artisan-Heritage II?

  • There are five matte-rustic colors in Chapter 5 Artisan-Heritage II. Also, we have added several embossed shapes, two of which are decorative 6" x 6" tiles that are designed to be used as a "field" for vertical applications.
  • Three of the five glazes are with a "crackle" feature to enhance the aged look of the tiles. This finish is very subtle insofar as being able to see the cracks due to the matte glazes used.
  • The metal 1" x 1" decors add a nice feature to this series. We have five colors of metals and they work beautifully and affordably with the ceramic palette of Chapter 5 Artisan-Heritage II.
  • In addition to a wide selection of decorative embossed tiles and mouldings, we have produced six ceramic mosaic medleys to complement the field tiles and round out any installation.

Where can this collection be used?

Chapter 5 Artisan-Heritage II is for interior wall/counter use. Ideal areas are shower installations, kitchen and bath walls and backsplashes, or any other interior wall space where typical wall tiles are used. The field tiles are NOT recommended for floors.

Please note that we do NOT recommend the three crackle finish tiles be used on horizontal food serving or preparation applications, such as kitchen counters. However, they can be used on powder room counters.

Are there any special design or installation tips for Artisan-Heritage II?

Artisan-Heritage has surface bullnose, bead, counter trim, and cornice trim to allow for versatile installations.

We produce Chapter 5 Artisan-Heritage II to reflect the shade variations associated with handmade tile. As with all Jeffrey Court handmade tiles, we strongly recommend laying out and blending the tiles prior to installation. This step will ensure a proper color blend in order to achieve a classic look for your installation.

We recommend sealing the three crackle glazed tiles prior to and after installation with a high quality penetrating sealer.

The crackle glaze nuance brings an old-world charm to each installation. In wet areas, water can penetrate through these minute cracks which will accentuate the antiquing. This nuance is something to be embraced as ALL CRACKLE glazes have this antiquing.

We recommend cleaning all spills immediately, as matte-finished tiles can etch. This is especially the case with red wine and fruit juices.
