CHAPTER 9  •  Pietra Opus II

Why did you name Chapter 9 Pietra Opus II?

The words Pietra Opus translate to stone compositions. The international flavor of stone conjures the imagination of old world construction. Artisans for centuries have created beautiful installations by using "Stone compositions".

What changes occurred to Chapter 9 Pietra Opus II?

We discontinued the all the larger format stone floor tiles, several slower moving mosaics and listellos, and all the ceramic crowns and moulding pieces. The deletions of these products made way for a greatly expanded offering of mosaics in onyx, onyx/resin blends, marble, slate, quartz, and 4x8 field tiles which are more in line with today's design trends.

What are the key features of Chapter 9 Pietra Opus II?

There are many. Here are just a few:

  • You will note that we have expanded our very popular onyx offering to include 12 new mosaics in a combination of stick, basket weave, and dot formats. To accompany the mosaics are beautiful polished 4x8 field tiles with a micro-bevel in both cappuccino and honey onyx colors. We specifically chose this particular size as they are ideal for both walls and floors in powder rooms and small areas.
  • We also expanded our popular slate and quartz lines by adding seven new mosaics and liners in a combination of all stone and stone and glass blends. As with the onyx offering, we also included a 4x8 field tile in both rustic slate and beautiful quartz. As per several requests, we have also included optional glass inserts in three colors for those customers who wish to "customize" the brick and square Fire & Ice mosaics.
  • We added a new marble, Iceberg to our popular stone and glass series. This beautiful white Turkish stone is a great addition to the mystic green limestone, philadelphia, walnut, golden, and ivory travertines. And yes, we also added a corresponding 4x8 field tile in each of these stones to assure any Jeffrey court installation is a resounding success.
  • Lastly, we added three very hip stone and resin mosaics. The mosaics add a bit of "sizzle" to any design.

Where can this collection be used?

Chapter 9 Pietra Opus can be used virtually anywhere in residences - floor and wall. The stone elements can also be used on commercial floors in medium duty use.

Kitchens, bathrooms, hearths, accent walls and patio settings are excellent locations for Chapter 9 Pietra Opus.

The only exception to the above is the stone / resin pieces which should only be installed in interior walls due to the possibility of scratching / damaging the resinous pieces.

How can I merchandise Pietra Opus II?

We have developed a five new Montage boards showing concepts using the stones from Chapter 9. These boards are numbered 43, 48, 49, 53, 20, and 29 and can be viewed on our web site. The 12 page catalog used in conjunction with the Essence cards is the best sales/ selection tool for showroom use.

Are there any special design or installation tips for Chapter 9 Pietra Opus II?

The glass pieces in the Fire and Ice mosaics are mesh mounted to the back of the mosaic sheets. The use of a white polymer thin set and complete thin set coverage will conceal the mesh when installed.

Use thin set or mortar bed installation materials only. Do not use mastics. Grouting should be done after a grout-release sealer is used and, on tiles other than the resin and stone mosaics, use only sanded grouts.

We recommend that you seal all natural stone with a high quality penetrating sealer prior to grouting and after grouting to prevent staining. Also, there are stone enhancers from several manufacturers that "enhance" stone and give more dramatic results. An on-going maintenance program is essential for all stone installations.

We recommend that you lay out the tiles prior to installation to create the blend of the different hues and colors the stones provide naturally, to create a beautiful natural stone design.

The use of mosaics with glass is an excellent accent with the Pietra Opus field tiles providing for a unique personal installation. The glass and stone mosaics can also be used with our various glazed tile offerings like Chapter 12 Campagna.
