Chapter seventeen

Jeffrey Court University

Jeffrey Court University's installment of the "Atlas" collection is an overview of the basic design elements that comprise Chapter 17. Join our host, Ally, as she walks you through the Atlas collection.

Great care was taken during the development of Chapter 17 Atlas to capture a “world of beauty” in ceramic tile. In doing so, we decided to choose a gloss crackle finish for this collection. The deep colors in conjunction with the gloss crackle finish create a rich four color palette, paired with 4 mosaic patterns create a perfect balance between traditional and transitional design.

Chapter 17 Atlas features several characteristics that exist with handcrafted tile. The depth and aged effect of the gloss crackle finish is superb. The tiles are meticulously sorted for optimum color variation, which creates a beautiful high-end look not achievable with machine made tile. The fields are offered in four sizes: 3" x 6" subway tile, 3" x 12" bar tile, 4" x 4" field tile, and a 5- 3/16" x 9-1/8" elongated hexagon. Also included are hand assembled ceramic mosaics, which balance traditional and transitional design. All fields, mosaics, and trims are offered in four stunning colors with a unique gloss crackle finish. As with all Jeffrey Court Chapters, Atlas includes coordinating trim pieces: 1-3/8" x 11 3/4" ‘Continent Dome,’ the slimmer 3/4" x 1 3/4" ‘Territory Dome,’ and a 2 1/4" x 11 3/4" ‘Atlas Crown.’ Go to to view our Jeffrey Court University unit on Chapter 17 Atlas for a deeper walkthrough of this collection amongst many others available through Jeffrey Court.

Chapter 17 Atlas is for interior wall use: kitchen & bath walls, backsplashes, fireplace surrounds, or any other interior wall space where typical wall tiles are used. The field tiles are NOT recommended for floors. Please see Chapter 17 application chart for Jeffrey Court’s recommended applications. Always consult your tile installer, and local building codes for your specific project.

5 Montage Boards, 10 Touch Boards, and 16 sample cards display the full breadth of the product line. All these point-of-purchase materials are augmented by the 12-page Chapter 17 Atlas catalog. Showroom installation and loose sample pieces can also be ordered at a discounted price.

Chapter 17 Atlas Collection reflects the shade variations associated with hand-made tile. As with all Jeffrey Court hand made tiles, we strongly recommend laying out and blending the tiles prior to installation. This step will ensure a proper color blend to achieve a classic look for your installation. Please Note: All crackle glazes will stain if not properly sealed. Jeffrey Court highly recommends sealing all crackle glazes with a high-quality penetrating sealer prior to grouting. Consult sealer manufacturer recommendations for reapplication as part of an ongoing maintenance routine. For shower and tub surround installations, we recommend soaking tiles in penetrating sealer for 5-10 seconds prior to installation to ensure a complete seal. Note that if unsealed tiles get wet, they will darken for a period of time until the inherent moisture evaporates. See the Jeffrey Court website at to gain inspiration on the design possibilities offered with Chapter 17 Atlas. You will see traditional designs, and modern twists – even a few ideas on blending in the decorative tiles to create something totally new. The possibilities are infinite with Chapter 17 Atlas.
